A REGULATION FLINTLOCK BROWN BESS MUSKET PATTERN 1793 (INDIA PATTERN TYPE 2) MARKED TO 62ND (WILTSHIRE) REGIMENT OF FOOT

A  Regulation Pattern 1793 Brown Bess Flintlock Musket (India Pattern Type 2), Circa 1810, marked to the 62nd (Wiltshire) Regiment of Foot.  39 3/8" barrel , .75" bore, marked 62 Rt to top of barrel, Kings Proof marks and Ordnance Inspectors crown mark on right towards the breech. Tang with Ordnance Inspectors mark to rear. Barrel has patches of pitting. 

Regulation lock (good working action, cleaned finish), all original, engraved TOWER with Crown over GR and Ordnance Inspectors mark of a Crown over arrow. India Pattern type 2, post 1809 throat hole flint cock. All correct and original regulation brass furniture comprising buttplate marked F over 36 to tang, triggerguard, sideplate, three ramrod pipes and brass fore end cap. Original period iron ramrod and sling swivels fitted. Regulation original full stock with handling marks and repairs including an old pinned repair foreward of triggerguard. Stock has all the correct markings including makers stamp, D MOULD, to rear of sideplate as well as Ordnance Inspectors Crown acceptance mark to rear of triggerguard. Overall length 55 1/4".  

Complete with a correct period fitting Brown Bess bayonet, 22” overall, 4” socket. Inspectors mark of Crown over 19 to blade.

A regimentally marked rare survivor, the 62nd Regt saw service in the Napoleonic Wars Peninsula War including the Battle of Bayonne after which they were ordered to North America to fight against the United States in the War of 1812.  The Brown Bess was only replaced in 1838 so this one will have seen a lot of service.
